Public hearings for the recently formed Ad Hoc Committee on Co-ordinated Oversight on Service Delivery has been postponed from 19-21 January 2010 until 2-4 February 2010. Committee Secretary Ajabulile Mtiya says that the deadline for written submissions has also been extended to 22 January 2010 at 12:00.
The committee was formed after Parliament's National Assembly passed a resolution in September 2009 to establish an ad-hoc committee that would conduct oversight on service delivery. More specifically, the committee is tasked with co-ordinating visits to both rural and urban areas and to conduct public hearings in Parliament. It will thereafter be expected to compile a list of recommendations and a proposed implementation plan.
The committee comprises the members of the Portfolio Committe on Local Government and Traditional Affairs as well as representatives from the following committees: Human Settlements, Energy, Social Development, Health, Water and Environmental Affairs, Basic Education, Transport as well as Rural Development and Land Reform.
